Our steel dip design has been around since 1969 with around 100 units being built in this time. Our company took over the design and hold the original drawings from a company we bought out in 1992. There are still many old dips around the Clermont district. We feel they will suit any application you place them in.

The old dips were made of the same material, but were only protected with Fisholine and sump oil. We now protect the dips with a modern two-pack epoxy paint that is chemical resistant.

Our steel plunge cattle dips are constructed in one piece from 6mm mild steel plate with all joins and seams fully welded, inside and out, ready for installation. The overall length is 10.36 meters (34’), with a 3.66 meter swim and a 6.7 meter walk out.

The entrance end is vertical. The overall depth is 2.4 meters (8’) allowing for 2.1 meter depth of water. A 75NB (3”) socket is welded into one side at the walkout end for water returning from the draining pen. This socket is welded onto whichever side suits the customer.

The inside width is 1.2 meters, with the sides vertical. The outside of the wall are ribbed horizontally and vertically with flat mild steel on edge. Bolting plates are welded to the vertical ribs, to bolt on 127mm (5”) RSJ columns. These columns run from the base of the dip and continue up 2 meters above the top of the dip and are tied with a beam across the top wot prevent the dip from caving in. Brackets are attached to the beams to bolt on timber palings for fitting a roof. Brackets are also attached to the columns for fitting splash boards.

The walkout ramp is constructed from 200 x 3f (8” x 1 ½”) hardwood bolted across at 300mm (12”) spacings. This ramp has hooks at the top end to secure it to the floor of the walkout and allow for easy removal if repairs are required. Columns and ramp are fitted o site during installation.

All steel work is sand blasted and coated with a special two-pack to a thickness of 500 microns.

A hole approximately 11.5 meters long by 2.1 meters wide by 2.5 meters deep will have to be dug. The walkout end can taper down to suit the angle of the walkout. Sand should be placed in the floor of the hole of sufficient depth so that the top of the dip will be about 100,, (4”) above the highest point of the surface. Sand should also be backfilled under the walkout and also down the side if in black soil or clay soil.
